1989

Last week, Taylor Swift dropped her latest album, 1989. After listening to leaked songs, Out of the Woods and Welcome to New York, I knew that I really wanted to buy this album. I love buying physical CDs! I went and bought myself a deluxe edition of 1989 and it is all I've been listening to this past week, in fact, I am listening to it as I write this post!

1989 comes with three extra tracks, Wonderland, You Are in Love and New Romantics, three songwriting memos, and photos from Taylor.

This album is very Taylor Swift as well as being very different from her past albums. There is not a track on this album that I do not like. Claps to Taylor! Many of the songs on this album are very upbeat and feel-good. The songs I always seem to have stuck in my head are Blank Space and How You Get The Girl. The first single off the album, Shake It Off, still manages to get me in a a really happy, dancey mood even though I have heard it many times.

I think this album has a very electronic and tinny timbre if we generalise the instrumentals beneath Taylor's voice. It really steers away from her country style beginnings and shows how she is developing her music. The use of different instruments and textures throughout the album add interest and keep you wanting to hear more. No song is the same.

I really love how Taylor has included three of her songwriting memos on this record. It really brings the listener closer to the artist and we get an insight of how Taylor Swift writes her songs. These memos also highlight some aspects of Taylor's songs that I would not have otherwise noticed. They're also handy if you want some advice on writing your own music!

Buy 1989 if you don't mind Taylor Swift, it's definitely an album to have a good time to. If you hate Taylor Swift then don't buy it, you'll probably just find her more irritating than you already did. I rate this album a steady 4/5 stars.
